About Farah Hamoon
BIO
Farah is the youngest of eight children in her family. Some of her siblings, nieces, and nephews are talented artists: musicians, painters, and some even both. For years, she could feel herself gravitating toward the arts. She knew it was in her blood. However, past circumstances would not allow her to pursue her calling. After decades of struggle, she was finally able to change her life in 2022. With that change came freedom. The freedom to feel, to imagine, to create. Her true colors began to show again for the first time in 30 years and, along with them, surfaced a blank canvas – a tabula rasa. Even though she had no direction at the time, she had desire, the flames of which lit her steps on the new path of re-discovering herself as an artist. Not long after beginning her new journey, she came across a wise master, Glen Kessler, who possessed an extraordinary compass known as The Compass Atelier. Upon seeing the Compass, Farah could sense the Compass’ power to lead her to horizons she had never seen before. Farah asked Glen for the honor to become a disciple of his in 2023 and has been following his guidance under the Compass’ direction to mastery.
ARTIST STATEMENT
I am an artist whose work focuses on the beauty and tragic suffering of children living through challenging circumstances. As a lifelong healer (nurse, mother, humanitarian), I find my attention uniquely focused on those most vulnerable in our society--the young. Through my paintings, I aim to portray both the realities they face and the moments of joy, hope, and imagination that still shape their childhood despite the myriad challenges posed to them. I try to capture the small, real expressions of hope—like a smile, a game, or a quiet moment of joy. My paintings are not meant to portray sadness alone. Rather, I try to highlight the strength, dignity, and creativity of children who navigate the world with far fewer resources but no less humanity. Using light, color, and expressive detail, I highlight the resilience and inner strength of these young individuals. My intention is to offer a respectful and honest view, one that acknowledges their struggles while celebrating their capacity for happiness and connection. My work invites viewers to look beyond hardship and recognize the dignity, humanity, and vibrant spirit still present in every child through their adversity. I hope to connect my viewers with these children’s inner stories, dreams, and emotions as well as to learn from their example how to find the good in even the darkest of times.
